Our sports facilities are open to all levels of ability. Whether you're looking to try something new and stay fit, or want to compete at the highest level of your chosen sport, we've got the facilities and expertise to help you achieve your goals.
Our sports and gym memberships are open to everyone in the community, not only our students and staff. All types of membership provide unlimited gym access, unlimited fitness classes and unlimited racket sports bookings.
We have 2 gyms on campus. Both are within a short walk of each other and close to the city centre.
If you're looking to get fit, feel great, and make new friends, St Paul's Gym is the place to go. During term time, it's open from 7.00am on weekdays and 7.30am on Saturdays and Sundays.
- Free weights – Olympic platforms, dumbbells from 2kg–50kg, smith machines, hex bars and benches
- Cardio equipment – Cybex treadmills, Wattbikes, cross trainers, dynamic rowing machines, assault bikes and a Stairmaster
- Resistance machines – full range of Cybex Eagle machines
- Functional equipment – cable machines, core bags, slam balls, kettlebells and plyo boxes
There's also a sports hall for sports such as badminton and archery, as well as changing and shower facilities.
Spinnaker Sports Centre has cardio and multi-use studio spaces, a sports hall, and changing and shower facilities. In term time, it's open from 7.00am on weekdays.
The studio space at the Spinnaker Sports Centre includes:
- Skipping ropes
- Dumbbells from 2kg–25kg
- Boxing bags
Courts and pitches
You can book the sports halls at Spinnaker Sports Centre and St Paul's Gym for sports including:
- Table tennis
- Volley ball
We also have squash courts. And there's discounted access to the indoor tennis courts at Portsmouth Tennis Academy, which is next to Spinnaker Sports Centre.
Our outdoor sports facilities are part of our Langstone sports site, located in the east of the city.
There's an hourly bus service from the campus to Langstone on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons and evenings during term time. It's about a 10-minute drive or 20-minute cycle from the main campus.
The courts and pitches include:
- full-size 3G pitch
- full-size astro pitch
- 4 netball courts (2 hard and 2 carpet)
- 4 tennis courts (2 hard and 2 carpet)
- 6 grass football pitches
- 2 grass rugby pitches
- changing facilities
New sports centre
From 2021, you'll be able to use our £57 million indoor sports centre, which is currently under construction next to the Library in the centre of campus.
This centre will feature:
8-lane swimming pool
Sauna and steam rooms
8-court sports hall
Extensive gym with 175 fitness stations
3 multi-purpose studios
Climbing wall with bouldering facility
Cafe and social spaces
Underground car park
