Meet the team here at Innovation Connect and find out more about how we can help.

Chris Worrall
Innovation Director

Contact: chris.worrall@port.ac.uk

I joined the team in 2018 as the Innovation Director for the University of Portsmouth after a previous career in industry. Before joining the team I worked as a technical consultant on electromagnetics, communications systems, data analytics and computer networks. I have worked as a Science advisor to HM Government focusing on defence applications and worked in London for a number of years before becoming the CTO of an established technical consultancy on the south coast.

In my role at the university, and with my team's support, I define the overall direction for Innovation Connect. Innovation Connect is one of the ways the University supports business growth and development in our region. I can help businesses by listening to their suggestions as to how the university can provide a valuable proposition, I can draw on my past experience in technical and market domains, and I can help connect businesses into a network of people within the university and also in our regional community.

I enjoy numerical modelling and computer simulation for fun as a hobby, tweed jackets and single malt whisky. I like a good book on art history, business strategy and philosophy.

Sophie Cresswell

Sophie Cresswell
Centre Manager at Technopole

Contact: sophie.cresswell@port.ac.uk

I have worked at the Technopole for over 16 years, in various different roles, from Reception, to Conference Coordinator, to Assistant Manager, and now Interim Centre Manager covering Robins Maternity Leave.

I am currently covering both the Centre Manager and Assistant Centre Manager roles, so I manage the building, lead on all sales enquiries, manage all accounts queries, and manage the Reception team. I work closely with the clients to signpost them to any business support needs, and react to any queries or enquiries that they have.

In my spare time I love to bake cakes and vegan sweet treats, and have a passion for rescuing animals.

Charlotte Coward
Innovation Centres Officer

Contact: charlotte.coward@port.ac.uk

After graduating from the University of Portsmouth, I moved back home and was only there for a year before permanently relocating back to Portsmouth because of how much I love it! I first joined Innovation Connect in 2017, when we only had one site. Over the past few years it has been great to see Innovation Connect evolve and grow to the 4 sites and large team we have today. Prior to joining Innovation Connect I worked at the Portsmouth Museums and the Visitor Information Centre.

As the Innovation Centres Officer I manage the day-to-day operations for Halpern House and Cell Block Studios. My role is varied and requires me to be reactive, I'm involved in everything: from finances and contracts for the Centres, to processing enquiries, meeting clients and reporting on the Centres.

I have too many hobbies, I'm always busy. When I can I love cooking new recipes, playing video games, playing board games, going for long walks with my dog, gardening and looking after my many house plants and crocheting/knitting if I have time!

Before joining the team I studied Business Enterprise Development at the University of Portsmouth before staying on to complete a Masters in Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship.  I provide support for the day-to-day operations at Innovation Connect, primarily at Halpern House and Cell Block Studios.

I assist with issuing, managing and monitoring tenant License to Occupy Agreements, perform various financial tasks, respond to member enquiries, and also take part in event management and project initiatives. In my spare time, I enjoy cycling and going to the gym.

Alex

Alex Giles
Customer Experience Assistant

Contact: alexandra.giles@port.ac.uk

I joined the Technopole team in June 2022 having been a stay-at-home mum for 3 years. Although similar to my previous roles, this is my first time working on a reception desk.
My experience varies from customer service, engineer helplines and doing a bit of everything for a large freight company.

As a Customer Experience Assistant I support the rest of the team in making sure the Technopole is run smoothly from managing clients' posts to answering email enquiries. It's been great learning what the day to day running of the Technopole takes.

I enjoy walking my dog, bike rides and cooking for friends and family. In the summer months you'll more than likely find me in a muddy field throwing some of my best moves in the sun!

Jodie Hinton

Jodie Hinton
Customer Experience Assistant

Contact: jodie.hinton@port.ac.uk

I joined the team in January 2022 following various hospitality, marketing, and customer service roles. I'm also currently looking into following up my journalism degree with an MRes focusing on the effects of negative press representation on transgender youth.

Working on the reception desk at the Technopole building, I help to make sure everything in the building keeps running to the highest possible standard, including taking care of client requests, fielding phone calls and emails, and chasing up maintenance issues.

In my spare time, I help run an arts collective in Southsea that routinely puts on open mic nights and festivals, as well as helping run a new alt music night. Outside of that, I enjoy video games and 90s sci-fi of questionable quality.

Natalie Thompson

Natalie Howard (née Thompson)
Marketing and Communications Officer

Contact: natalie.thompson@port.ac.uk

I recently joined the team in November 2021 as Marketing and Comms Officer as part of a secondment. Prior to this, I have worked in various marketing and comms roles around the University since completing my Undergraduate degree in Portsmouth.

I am helping promote the spaces and services at Innovation Connect as well as helping the team with all their different communication channels, events and community engagement. I can help you to promote your good news stories to the wider world and keep you informed of any benefits and services available to you at the University.

I like (to try) and keep fit by running regularly and have completed a few marathons and half marathons over the years. I also enjoy watching movies and eating food (hence the running).

Robin Sheppard

Robin Sheppard
Centre Manager at Technopole (on Maternity Leave)

Contact: robin.sheppard@port.ac.uk

Robin is currently on Maternity Leave from being Centre Manager at Technopole but originally joined the team in June 2018, coming from a background of operational delivery and customer service in both the private and public sector.

Robin loves her job at the Technopole for two reasons, the first being the community, as she gets to work alongside a wide variety of talented individuals on a daily basis and secondly,  the fact that every day is different and you never know what challenges you are going to encounter.

Robin loves travelling and seeing the world, although this might be slightly harder than before with two young children!
