Architecture and Interior Design Taster Day
We're excited to meet you. Check in from 9.45am and get ready to learn about studying your favourite subjects at uni.
Here's our guide to subject taster days, should you want to learn a little more about our taster days before booking.
We'll meet at Eldon Building, Winston Churchill Avenue, Portsmouth, PO1 2DJ.
Exciting careers await you in all types of fields with a degree in Architecture and Interior Design.
Get an overview of the paths to becoming an Architect or Interior Designer at Portsmouth. Explore the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) route to qualification and the role of the Architects Registration Board (ARB). Then look at life at the Portsmouth School of Architecture, as we discover the world beyond academia.
Get ready for your first challenge. You'll have a limited amount of time to design and build an architectural tower, which must be aesthetically pleasing and practical.
The winner will be the tallest (at least 1 metre tall) most beautiful tower, which doesn't fall over!
Quick breather. Take stock of the the morning then get ready for the next session.
Next up: design and build a bridge that strikes the art and architectural balance.
In this challenge, you'll build bridges that should be both practical and beautiful; they should also span a 50cm gap and support a 440-gram tin of baked beans.
Fuel-up. Feel free to bring your own lunch for the day or grab something from the cafeteria.
Explore the spatial potential of forms developed from cutting and scoring pieces of paper using model-making, drawing and possibly photography.
Closing summary of the day, but the floor is yours to ask your questions 1:1 or in small groups – to lecturers and current students.
This could be about different subjects, the interview process and putting together their portfolio, the transition from college to uni, any of the talks you've watched so far – and/or whatever you want to know about uni.
