Words of wisdom for the Class of 2022

From 11-22 July 2022, the Class of 2022 will join a 250,000 strong alumni community. Graduation is a long awaited and milestone event in their journey.
We asked alumni if there was a piece of advice they were given as a graduate that influenced their next step, or if there were any words of wisdom they wish they’d been offered. We wanted to not only offer some real life advice to graduating students, but also give alumni the chance to make a difference, even to just one person. Here’s what they said:
Rebecca Allyse Lawrence
BA (Hons) Drama and Performance, 2013
Don’t panic after graduation that you don’t have any further plans. With the experience you’ve had you will know more about yourself and that will tailor where you are going, even if you don’t know where that is yet.
Kevin McLennan
BA (Hons) Business Studies, 2011
Remember in the real world you can fail, and it's a good thing as long as you learn from it. Now there's no grade to chase, create your own goals to achieve what success is to you.
Marie-Louise Tambyapin
BA (Hons) Media Studies, 2020
A piece of advice I was given: if you don’t wake up and genuinely feel happy about going into work, then you are in the wrong job. Having a job you enjoy doing will make your life better.
Naheed Mirza
(MPharm) Pharmacy, 2020

Graduation is one of the most amazing days of your life. The most powerful thing which you have right now is your degree, which no one can take away from you. Graduation is your first step in making a difference in people's lives. The strongest factor for success is believing in yourself, believing you deserve it and believing that you will get there no matter what happens.
Bianca Nicholson
BSc (Hons) Psychology, 2016
MSc Criminology and Criminal Psychology, 2019
Keep an open mind, opportunities can come from the most unexpected places. Keep utilising the university services available. Never give up.
Stian Engeboe
BSc (Hons) Music and Sound Technology, 2019
Not knowing what you want to do upon graduating is okay. Take it day by day. It's a big world out there so remember to be gentle with yourself and most importantly believe in yourself. Don't worry about asking questions, even the silly ones, as it'll make the workplace a better place.
Paula Simpson
BA (Hons) Economics, 1987
There is no right or wrong path to take. Always enjoy what you do.
