Virtual Applicant Experience Day guide

Before the event
Not sure how to prepare for the Virtual Applicant Experience Day? We've got you covered. Here's what to do to get yourself ready for the big day.
Prepare your technology
The best way to experience our Virtual Applicant Experience Day is on a laptop or desktop computer. You'll still be able to access the event from your tablet or smartphone, but you'll get more from the day if you have a bigger screen to work with. So if you can, make sure you'll be able to access a laptop or desktop on the day. To get the most from the event – and to take a full part in the interactive sessions on the day – we also recommend you install Zoom, and have your own Zoom account. It's free to sign up and free to download too.
Bookmark the event page
One day before the event, we'll send you a link to the Virtual Applicant Experience Day – it's a great idea to bookmark that link right away, so you know exactly where you're heading once the event begins. We'll also send you a text on the day of the event itself, just in case you miss the email.
Plan your day in advance
We'll be holding live interactive sessions for each course throughout the day but it's still a great idea to plan your day in advance – take a look at the schedule below, and give yourself a rough idea of where you need to be and when you need to be there. If you want to talk to any of our other teams or support services, the Information Fair will run from 10.00am to 3.00pm, so you can pop in to speak to them whenever it's convenient.
On the day
We’ve made getting around our Applicant Experience Day event as easy as possible. When you log on for the day, you’ll see a home screen with the following tabs – My Event, Interactive Sessions, My Schedule, Find Your Course Booth and Information Fair – here's what you'll find under each tab:
This is your Event homepage. It will show your upcoming sessions so you can plan your day.
Here you can join a live interactive session about your course. There will be opportunities to get an insight into what you’ll study, how you’ll be taught and what facilities are available to you here at the University. You’ll also have the opportunity to meet and ask your questions of the teaching staff, as well as current students about their experiences. These are scheduled through the day.

Please note, that on joining the sessions you’ll be taken through to a zoom room. You don’t need your mic or camera. They are optional for chats in breakout rooms. To ask a question type your message into the chat box.
This is where you'll find your personalised schedule, including your main live course session and any other activities.
Find Your Course Booth
Your course booth will be packed full of information including on demand videos and resources. Our faculty teams will also be on hand to answer your more general course questions, and provide you with information on other faculty support services such as Placements and Learning Development Tutors.
When in the booth, click on the ‘Ask us anything’ button, and you’ll be taken to the faculty booth zoom room where you’ll be able to ask your questions via the chat box. You don’t need your mic or camera. They are optional for chats in breakout rooms.
The Information Fair is where you'll find all our guidance and support services – throughout the day, you'll be able to drop into one of their booths to ask any questions you have. There'll be representatives from the following available:
– Exchanges and Study Abroad
– Finance and Money
– International Students
– Learn a Language
– Sport and Recreation
– Student Housing
– The Students’ Union
– Student Wellbeing Service
If you're not sure which faculty your course sits within – or if you have any other general questions and queries – stop by the Help Desk booth and our team will point you in the right direction.
> I’m having problems logging in / I’ve not received my verification code
If you’re having difficulties accessing our Virtual Applicant Experience Day, it could be one of the following issues:
You’ve entered a different email to the one you used to register for the event
Your verification code might have been sent to your junk or spam folder
If you’re still struggling to login, please contact email@example.com.
> Is there support available if I’m struggling to find my way round the event?
Yes – just make your way to the ‘Help Desk’ in the Information Fair and we’ll help you find your way around.
> How do I join a live interactive session?
All live interactive sessions are accessible from the ‘My Schedule’ or ‘Interactive Sessions’ sections, both of which you’ll see when you login. Simply navigate to the session you want to join, then click the ‘Join Session’ button.

> How do I get info about support and professional services?
Our Information Fair is where you’ll find all the support and professional services, and details around who is available for you to speak with. By clicking on the ‘Ask Us Anything’ button, you’ll be taken to their Zoom booth, where you’ll be able to ask your question via the chat.
