Eligibility for quarantine support

If you are a new student travelling from a UK Government red list country, to join the University for the first time, and are required to pay the cost of quarantine, the University will provide you with a tuition fee discount for up to £1,750. The approved amount will be credited to your My Finance account. This will be offset against any outstanding tuition fees. If your fees have been paid in full the balance will be refunded to you. The costs will not be met up-front and there is no cash-alternative.

This support is available to all new international fee paying students who will be arriving and registering in Portsmouth for the 2021 academic year (including January/February 2022 entry) with the exception of:

  • Study Abroad or Exchange students
  • EU transition scholarship holders
  • Part time or Distance learning students

You will need to complete this form and send your hotel quarantine receipt with a copy of your passport stamp confirming arrival in country to global@port.ac.uk

Full terms and conditions

In order to be eligible for reimbursement of quarantine expenses, students must:

  • have accepted an offer from the University to study an undergraduate or postgraduate degree programme beginning in January/February 2022;
  • on the day of departure to the UK, be domiciled in, and travelling from, a country which is listed on the UK government’s list of countries from which new arrivals are required to quarantine on arrival in the UK;
  • travel to the UK before the 7 March 2022;
  • complete the online application form and provide a valid receipt of payment for UK government quarantine, copies of your passport stamps confirming date of entry to the UK, and/or any other evidence reasonably requested by the University; 
  • If you leave the UK during the academic year, you may require a further period of quarantine or testing when you return. We will not be able to provide support to you for any additional periods of quarantine.
  • If you withdraw from your studies without completing your tuition fee payments, the University will not reimburse you for the quarantine period.
  • If you are a sponsored student, you will be able to claim the reimbursement once your sponsor has completed your full tuition fee payment.
  • We are not able to provide support for quarantine or testing for any dependants or family members who travel to the UK with you. We are not able to reimburse alumni or returning students.
  • If the government guidance and requirements change, we reserve the right to review this support package.
