Registering with the police

If you've been asked to register with the police, here's how (and where) you can do it

Coronavirus update

The Nationalities Office for Police Registration has reopened but appointments may be limited, so please do not worry if you are not able to make an appointment for a new Police Registration Certificate straight away. Updates on current Police Registration Certificates are now available for booking at the Eastern Police Investigation Centre in Portsmouth. Appointments for Police Registration Certificate Updates will commence from 16 November 2020.

The law requires some nationalities to register with the police due to the Immigration Act 1971. If you're required to register it will say so on your vignette or your Entry Clearance Office decision letter. It won't be shown on your BRP. You need to register within 7 days of arriving in the UK.

If you fail to register with the police within three months of arrival in the UK you could be arrested. If you fail to register at all, you could be fined up to £5,000.
